Our Story

In the fall of 2014 Olathe Northwest High School was affected by a tragedy that devastated the whole community. Two suicides back-to-back that left the school shaken. 

In April of 2015, two ONW sophomores came up with an idea to host, plan, and run a golf tournament. Later that year their dream became a reality. "After seeing how it devastated our friends and school, we knew we couldn't just sit back and watch," says Alexandria. They spent the next six months of planning, creating, and building a successful golf tournament. This tournament was to raise funds for the Kansas chapter of the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention. Cameron says "No one else was doing anything about it so we did what we could to help". Together they contacted hundreds of businesses and guests around the community to spread the word about the tournament. Six short months later. The tournament was up and running.

On a brisk Friday morning in October of 2015, all of Cameron and Alexandria’s plans fell into place. With 34 teams of four and 28 volunteers, the golf tournament was underway. It was a beautiful day to golf and to raise awareness for suicide prevention. The girls were very grateful for the turnout and after expenses, were able to give $10,000 to the Greater Kansas City Chapter of the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention.

In the fourth year, the golf tournament was transformed into a gala benefit and trivia night for suicide prevention. This event on August 11th, 2018 was an even bigger success than the golf tournaments had been, so they decided to continue the gala benefit.

Now going into their fifth year the event has raised over $85,000 with $45,000 going directly to suicide prevention efforts through charities like The American Foundation for Suicide Prevention Kansas Chapter and the Tom Karlin Foundation. Their efforts through the event have made a huge impact on the community.
